Biography
The young conductor Christian Casleanu was born in Germany in a family with musicial tradition of romanian heritage and began playing the piano at a young age.
Over the time, he conducted symphonic orchestras like Rheinische Philarmonie Koblenz, Würtembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, Sinfonieorchester Aachen (Germany), Limburgs Symfonie Orkest (the Netherlands), Balkan Symphony Orchestra (Italy), Filamonica “Mihail Jora” Bacau, Teatru “Nae Leonard” Galati and Camerata Regala Bucuresti (Romania).
Christian has specialized in Opera repertoire, starting with the main opera works to contemporary works. He worked at theatres like Opera Bonn, Aachen, Düsseldorf, Lüneburg (Germany), Opera national de Lorraine in Nancy (France), Opera Zuyd Maastricht, Opera Conservatorium Maastricht (the Netherlands) in productions like „Cosi fan tutte”, „Le Nozze di Figaro”, „La finta giardiniera” (Mozart), „Jerusalem” (Verdi), „Siegfried” (Wagner), „Neues vom Tage” (Hindemith), Ariadne auf Naxos (Strauss) or „Anatevka/Fiddler on the roof” (Bock).
He obtained two Bachelor of Music diplomas in orchestral conducting and piano from Conservatorium Maastricht (the Netherlands), where he studied with the teachers Enrico Delamboye, Jan Stulen and Thomas Dorsch (conducting) and Katia Veekmans (piano).
Furthermore he specialised in orchestral conducting, finishing at the same institute his master studies with Arjan Tien.
At the same time, he refined his studies with Per Borin (Musikhochschule Stuttgart) and Ovidiu Balan (European Arts Academy). In addition, he followed following masterclasses: Jorma Panula (Panula Academy), Sylvain Cambreling, Christian Ehwald and Sigmund Thorp (“Jeunesses Musicales Conducting Masterclass” Bucuresti), Martin Akerwall and Dr.Peter Ettrop Larsen (Orchestral Conducting Academy), Enrique Garcia Asensio (Conducting Technique of Maestro Sergiu Celibidache) and Cristian Măcelaru (Romanian Chamber Orchestra).
He has worked recently as an “Assistant Conductor” for Maestro Cristian Măcelaru with the DSO Berlin, Orchestre National de France, National Radio Orchestra of Romania and works regularly together with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne.
Since February 2024, Christian is the Assistant Professor for Orchestra and Orchestral Studies at the Faculty of Music and Theatre, West-University of Timișoara, Romania.
